Occupy Wall Street's Sustainability Partners

The innovative New York environmental group, Times Up!, has been at Occupy Wall Street helping to turn the ongoing protest into a model of sustainability. Their efforts have included bicycle-generated power (after the city confiscated generators just prior to the onset of the season's first snowfall), compost for local farmer's markets and bicycles for the transport of goods and medicine.

Time's Up! in conjunction with OWS Sustainable Working Group, is creating energy bikes to replace all the generators that were confiscated by the City from Occupy Wall Street (OWS) last week. We’ve secured funds for 5 human-powered energy cycles that will be installed this weekend. Please donate what you can so we can secure the additional bikes needed to ensure that OWS is fossil-fuel free!

The group will require support to meet the challenges of the oncoming winter in the city within the city that is Zuccotti Park. They are calling for donations on the CrowdRise fundraising site to help them keep those in the park sustainable.

If you've wanted to be part of Occupy Wall Street but have not been in a position to get involved, this is a way you can maximize your impact on politics -- anonymously, if preferred -- while minimizing the impact on the environment.

The donation site is here.

This is a great idea and perhaps one of the more positive things to come out of the somewhat difficult to understand purposes of the OWS movement.

I have been following this movement from the beginning on September 17th. And I think there are some great people involved. Keep up a good example and more people will follow.
